Yakama Nation Community Center to Offer Free Dental Care This Weekend

TOPPENISH, Wash. — Access to dental care will be easier than ever this weekend in Toppenish, where the Yakama Nation Community Center is set to provide free dental services from Friday through Sunday.

The clinic is part of a broader community outreach initiative, welcoming anyone in need of dental care—especially those who may not have regular access to dental checkups.

“It’s really about addressing all aspects of health,” said Mary Anne Walker, Director of the Central Washington Oral Health Foundation. “What happens in your mouth affects your entire body.”

The event aims to serve the entire community, with a focus on vulnerable populations including those experiencing homelessness.

“We’re seeing a lot of homelessness right now, and they’re one of the main groups we’re trying to reach,” said Noreen George, a Community Health Representative with the Yakama Nation.

Organizers are also working to support children and elders, many of whom face barriers to dental care.

“Our children lack access. Our elders lack access—some of them are homebound or don’t have transportation to a provider,” George explained.

All dental professionals at the clinic are volunteering their time, with many eager to give back. Several local providers are participating, along with students and faculty from the University of Washington.

“A lot of people want to give back to the community,” said Walker. “Most of the volunteers this weekend are from the University of Washington.”

In addition to offering cleanings, exams, and basic treatments, the event will focus heavily on education.

“Oral health is essential to overall well-being,” Walker added. “If we can make a small difference through education and care, we’re setting people up for better long-term health—and that’s our goal.”

The free clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, Friday through Sunday, at the Yakama Nation Community Center. All are welcome.
