The humble toothbrush has remained virtually unchanged for over a century, yet even with regular brushing, nearly 40% of adults still suffer from gum disease.
ZERObrush, an emerging oral care technology company, aims to change this and has already attracted investor attention.
Founded by cosmetic dentist Dr. Nidhi Pai and product innovator Akash Pai, ZERObrush is developing the world’s first fully automated full-mouth dental cleaning system.
This innovative device uses advanced 3D scanning technology, customizable trays, and sonic bristles to simultaneously clean all tooth surfaces, delivering a professional-grade clean in a fraction of the time required for manual brushing.
“This device represents a major breakthrough in oral hygiene,” said Dr. Nidhi Pai. “Even with consistent toothbrushing, many people still struggle with gum disease and other oral health issues because traditional toothbrushes can’t reach every tooth surface.
The ZERObrush addresses this long-standing clinical challenge by providing a completely personalized full-mouth clean tailored to each individual’s unique tooth structure.”
Unlike recently introduced, one-size-fits-all full-mouth toothbrushes, the ZERObrush prioritizes personalization. Each brush head is meticulously crafted based on a precise 3D model of the user’s teeth, and the bristles are carefully designed to thoroughly remove plaque while protecting sensitive skin.
Early clinical trials have shown that the ZERObrush significantly outperforms manual brushing in removing plaque, reducing irritation and simplifying daily oral and gum care.
In just 30 seconds, the ZERObrush removed nearly twice as much plaque as a manual toothbrush in one minute.
After four weeks, participants experienced a significant reduction in plaque accumulation, while those who brushed manually often experienced increased plaque accumulation.
The device also effectively cleans hard-to-reach areas like the gum line and back of the gums, cleaning five times more effectively than manual brushing while also improving gum health by reducing inflammation and bleeding.
To date, ZERObrush has raised $10.8 million from prominent investors, including Large CPG Strategic, Social Capital, several angel investors, and Meta executives.
Dr. Pai emphasized, “Evidence has long shown that traditional brushing fails to adequately clean many tooth surfaces, yet oral care has remained essentially unchanged for over a century.
The ZERObrush is more than just an incremental improvement; it creates an entirely new oral hygiene category, bringing professional-grade cleaning to everyday life.”
The custom ZERObrush system leverages advanced 3D printing technology, professional-grade materials, and software inspired by other industries to deliver a truly effective cleaning experience.
By simultaneously cleaning all 192 tooth surfaces, the device achieves a level of precision unmatched even by skilled manual brushing.
Akash Pai, co-founder and responsible for product design and engineering, added, “We resist the industry’s ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.
Instead, we leverage cutting-edge technology to provide superior plaque removal while protecting sensitive gum tissue, making daily dental cleaning faster, easier, and more effective.”
