The MPS Foundation has announced the appointment of Prof Gozie Offiah as its new Chair. Prof Offiah takes over the role from Dr Graham Stokes, who was recently appointed chair of MPS Council.
Prof Offiah has been a member of the MPS Foundation since 2022, having practised medicine, with a background in surgery, for more than 15 years in the Health Service Executive Ireland.
“I am delighted and honoured to be the next chair of the MPS Foundation. During my time on the MPS Foundation Board, we have supported various valuable research projects from across the globe. In the past 12 months, some of the funded projects include the following: examining the impacts of patient suicides on clinicians in the UK, the experiences of female physicians around fertility and family planning in Ireland, the compatibility of informed consent and individual autonomy with African traditional values in South Africa, and much more,” said Prof Offiah.
The MPS Foundation is a global not-for-profit research initiative part of Medical Protection Society (MPS). It is dedicated to shaping the future of patient safety and enhancing the wellbeing of healthcare professionals by investing in research, analysis, education, and training.
Prof Offiah is currently an Assoc Prof and the director of Curriculum at the RCSI, University of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as the co-chair of tEACH, the teaching arm of the International Association of Communication in Healthcare, and a non-executive director of MPS. She recently completed her role as the foundational Clinical Lead for the National Intern Training programme in the Health Service Executive.

I want to thank Graham for all that the MPS Foundation has achieved during his time as Chair and wish him all the best in his new role as MPS Council chair,” Prof Offiah added.
Dr Stokes, speaking about his time as chair of MPS Foundation Board, said: “I have really enjoyed my time as chair of The MPS Foundation Board and am proud of what we have achieved since launching two years ago. I am delighted that Professor Offiah is becoming the new Chair, and I have every confidence that she can take The Foundation to the next stage in its journey.”
