Dr. Sakhawat Hossain Sayantha, Associate Professor of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), has been officially appointed as the new Dean of the College of Dentistry.
The appointment was signed by Registrar Prof. Md Nazrul Islam on July 2, 2025 and announced through an official BMU press release on July 13.
According to the appointment document, Dr. Sayantha will continue to serve as Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while taking on additional responsibilities. He will be responsible for managing the examinations from January to July and other urgent academic work.
Dr. Sayantha graduated from Dhaka Dental College with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2000 and subsequently completed a Master of Science in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Bangladesh Medical University (formerly known as the same) in 2007. He has a distinguished record in academic research and has published more than 30 scientific papers in national and international academic journals.
Dr. Sayantha is a life member of several professional organizations including Bangladesh Dental Association, Bangladesh Oral Cancer Association, Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) and Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB). He is well-respected in both academic and professional circles.
