HIGH POINT — A new chapter in dental care and education has begun with the unveiling of the HPU Health Plaza Dental, a state-of-the-art clinic that promises to serve the Triad region while providing essential hands-on training for students in High Point University’s newly established dental program. Located at 231 Plaza Lane, Suite 101, in the southern part of High Point, the clinic is poised to meet the growing demand for dental services in the area, which is home to thousands of residents in need of quality oral healthcare.
The clinic, which officially opened its doors during a ribbon-cutting ceremony this past weekend, is not only a significant addition to the local healthcare landscape but also a vital resource for the students of HPU’s dental program. Several hundred community members attended the event, which included a tour of the facility, a demonstration of the latest dental technologies, and an opportunity to meet faculty, students, and staff.
“We are excited to officially launch this clinic, which will not only provide accessible dental care to our community but will also serve as a hands-on learning environment for our dental students,” said Dr. Michael V. Williams, Dean of the College of Health Sciences at HPU. “This is a wonderful example of how High Point University is expanding its academic offerings while addressing real-world needs.”
The clinic will offer a range of services, including routine checkups, preventive care, fillings, and other dental procedures, under the supervision of licensed dentists. The facility is equipped with the latest in dental technology, ensuring patients receive high-quality, efficient care.
For the students, the clinic offers an invaluable opportunity to practice and hone their skills under the guidance of experienced professionals. Clinical experience is a crucial component of any dental program, and the new facility will provide students with hands-on learning in a real-world setting. Dr. Williams explained that the integration of education and service is a core part of the university’s mission to prepare students for successful careers in healthcare.
“The opportunity to work directly with patients in this setting allows our students to gain the practical experience they need to become exceptional dental professionals,” said Dr. Sandra Howell, Director of the Dental Program at HPU. “It’s an exciting time for our program, and we are thrilled to see this vision come to life.”
The opening of the clinic comes as part of High Point University’s ongoing efforts to expand its health sciences offerings, which now include a range of degree programs designed to address the growing healthcare needs in the region. University officials say that the dental program’s focus on both education and community service will help create a pipeline of highly trained professionals who are committed to improving health outcomes in the Triad.
Local residents who attended the event expressed their enthusiasm for the new clinic. “It’s great to see High Point University investing in our community like this,” said Karen Thomas, a longtime resident of High Point. “Affordable dental care is something a lot of people need, and it’s nice to know there’s a place where we can go for help, especially knowing students are learning from experienced dentists.”
With its blend of education, service, and community involvement, HPU Health Plaza Dental is set to become a cornerstone in both the university’s health sciences program and the Triad’s healthcare ecosystem.
