LECOM Dental Students Bring Smiles to Children with Free Care Event

Bradenton, FL – The LECOM School of Dental Medicine hosted a special event Saturday aimed at promoting oral health among local children.

The “Super Smile Saturday” invited kids ages 2 to 17 to receive complimentary dental care, including evaluations, fluoride treatments, and sealants. The clinic was entirely staffed by volunteer dental students from LECOM, giving them hands-on experience while serving the community.

Connor Boinski, a LECOM dental student, emphasized the importance of early care. “Dental disease, including cavities, is the most common chronic condition affecting both children and adults,” he said. “This event focuses on children and targets areas where the community benefits most from having their kids seen.”

LECOM officials highlighted that community engagement is central to the school’s mission. Events like this not only address immediate dental needs but also help students develop practical skills and foster connections with the community.

Parents and guardians were encouraged to bring children for preventive care, helping to address dental issues before they become more serious. According to Boinski, early intervention can significantly reduce long-term complications and improve overall health outcomes.

The event drew families from across the region, offering a chance for children to experience dental care in a supportive, educational environment. LECOM students guided participants through procedures, explained oral hygiene practices, and emphasized the importance of regular check-ups.

By combining education, service, and hands-on learning, LECOM’s Super Smile Saturday aims to instill lifelong habits that promote healthy teeth and gums. Officials said they hope to continue such programs regularly to reach more families in need.

Through initiatives like this, LECOM School of Dental Medicine demonstrates a commitment to both professional training and community health, making dental care accessible while nurturing the next generation of dental professionals.
