The Damien Center has opened a new dental clinic on the Near Eastside, aiming to expand access to affordable oral health care.
The nonprofit currently provides cleanings, fillings, extractions, X-rays, and other basic services at its Mosaic building at 1420 East Washington Street.
The clinic serves all Marion County residents, with fees sliding based on income and family size. Uninsured patients may qualify for financial assistance.
The Damien Center, Indiana’s oldest HIV service provider, said it opened the clinic in response to a 2022 county survey that found 38% of adults had not seen a dentist in the past year. Among households with incomes under $25,000, that figure rises to 65%.
“Many people delay or avoid dental care due to cost, fear, or past negative experiences,” said Alan Witchey, president and CEO of the Damien Center. “We’re working to remove those barriers.”
The clinic is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Appointments can be made online.
Patients are required to bring photo identification and insurance information. The clinic also offers financial counselors and assistance with Medicaid and Marketplace applications.
