A 30-year-old dental hygienist was sentenced for repeatedly illegally filming women at a dental clinic and a bus stop.
According to South Korean legal circles on the 28th, Judge Lee Dong-ho of the Incheon District Court sentenced the man to one year and six months in prison for illegal filming and quasi-forced harassment under the Special Act on Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes. He was also banned from working in institutions related to children, youth, and persons with disabilities for three years after his release from prison and required to complete a sexual violence treatment course.
The court noted that the defendant committed the crimes repeatedly in public places and medical clinics, using despicable methods and posing a significant social threat.
An investigation revealed that he had illegally filmed 449 times at a dental clinic and a bus stop in Incheon between 2018 and last year. In December 2018, he was also suspected of forcibly harassing a woman who had fallen asleep while drunk.
The case came to light after a report from a female patient in her 20s. Last July, while undergoing a wisdom tooth extraction and X-ray and CT scan, the patient was told to close her eyes to rest. However, she opened her eyes due to leg discomfort and discovered the hygienist secretly filming her with her phone. She then reported the case to the police, which eventually uncovered the serial voyeurism case.
