A dental chain in Carytown is moving to a new location one block away to expand services and accommodate more patients.
Elrod & Dunham Dentistry confirmed that its Carytown branch will relocate from its current 1,700-square-foot location at 25 South South Mond Street to a 4,600-square-foot space at 10 North Thompson Street. The new location occupies the former location of a long-standing ABC store, which vacated the space in 2023.
Branch Manager Miranda Maya stated that the new office will not only be close to the existing branch, ensuring continued patient access, but will also significantly enhance the clinic’s functionality and service capabilities.
The move will increase the clinic’s number of operating rooms from six to 13, and will also include a manager’s office and a staff lounge, which were not available at the current location.
Maya stated that the new office is expected to open around May of next year, but the exact date for renovations has not yet been determined. The existing branch on South South Mond Street will remain open until then.
Elrod & Dunham previously considered relocating to the former Baker’s Crust location at 3553 West Cary Street, but that plan fell through, ultimately choosing the Thompson Street space.
The former Baker’s Crust location and the adjacent Starbucks are slated for demolition to make way for the Carytown Kroger gas station project.
The Carytown location currently employs 13 people, and the new location plans to double that number.
The Elrod & Dunham dental chain also has three other locations in the Greater Richmond area: in Goochland (2979 River Road West) and Mechanicsville (9158 Atlee Road and 7516 Right Flank Road).
The property at 10 North Thompson Street is owned by Richmond Shopping Center Inc. and managed by Hutchinson Real Estate.
The transaction was brokered by Jonathan Bowden and Brooks Snead of Hackney Real Estate Partners.
