Sunstar Americas, the company behind oral care brand GUM, has entered into a strategic partnership with virtual-first dental service platform Dentistry. One (affiliated with MouthWatch Inc.) to jointly launch a digital oral health platform called “GUM Virtual Care”.
The platform will integrate Dentistry. One’s artificial intelligence screening tool SmileScan and provide the option to communicate with professional dentists in real time or asynchronously.
How SmileScan works
Users can access the SmileScan service by scanning a QR code provided by the dental clinic or on the packaging of some GUM products.
Users then use their smartphone to take a photo of their mouth, and the AI tool will automatically analyze the image to identify potential problems such as plaque, gum inflammation or crowded teeth. The system generates an analysis report within one minute, providing personalized recommendations and the option to contact a dentist for further communication.
Virtual dental services complement offline care
According to a joint statement issued by the two parties, the goal of this service is to enhance rather than replace regular preventive dental care. Users of GUM Virtual Care will receive a complete digital care solution from Dentistry. One, including live video consultations, asynchronous follow-up visits, personalized coaching, and coordinated services with local dentists.
Leadership Views on the Partnership
“This partnership demonstrates our strong commitment to driving better overall health through good oral habits,” said Matt Maurer, General Manager of Sunstar Americas.
“Our goal is to expand access to dental services and use technology to inspire people to take a more proactive approach to oral and overall health,” added Brant Herman, Founder and CEO of MouthWatch and Dentistry.One.
Popularizing AI Tools to Promote Early Intervention
By integrating AI screening and virtual consultations into daily oral care routines, this partnership hopes to achieve wider access to dental services, help users identify problems early, take intervention measures, and improve long-term oral health outcomes.
GUM Virtual Care is seen as a key step in digital health innovation, combining convenience, prevention, and expertise to help the public pay more attention to oral health.
