CURRY, N.C. (WECT) — This October, Canetuck Missionary Baptist Church in Curry will deploy a mobile clinic bus to provide free health screenings and dental appointments to the community.
The event, organized by the church’s missionary group and funded through partnerships with local churches and sponsorships from local businesses, Malcolm Lewis, a missionary at Canetuck Missionary Baptist Church, told reporters.
“We’re looking for everyone to come,” Lewis said. “We want to serve as many people in the community as possible.”
He also emphasized the importance of early screening—as a brain tumor and cancer survivor himself, “it was caught early. I’m an advocate for screening.”
The church also plans to continue similar screening programs in Goldsboro. Lewis said the mobile clinic is equipped with equipment to diagnose glaucoma, and the church is seeking a volunteer ophthalmologist to assist. The church is also seeking volunteer dentists to run the dental services.
