Dental Implants Restore Hearing: 63-Year-Old Woman Amazes Doctors

In Kosamba, Surat, Gujarat, India, 63-year-old Jaibunisha M. had been trapped in a world of silence for two decades. Over the past decade, she had become increasingly isolated, and even the best hearing aids could not improve her condition.

She stopped attending weddings and community gatherings, and her neighbors mistakenly thought she had become aloof and arrogant, but in fact, she just couldn’t hear them anymore.

The turning point came in July this year. Jaibunisha had an appointment for cochlear implant surgery, and her daughter Tezbi, a radiologist in Dubai, rushed back to India, and another daughter who works in dentistry in the United States was also on standby remotely. However, just as the surgery was about to take place, something surprising happened.

“I was sitting at home that day and suddenly I heard some noises,” Jaibunisha recalled. “I quickly told my husband and even walked to the neighbors’ house to confirm whether they were playing something.” But the fact is that her hearing really began to recover.

This transformation occurred after she underwent a series of dental treatments, including full-mouth reconstruction, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) repair, and nerve decompression surgery.

Dr. Rishi Bhatt, an artificial dental implant expert, pointed out: “These dental interventions may have affected the nerves related to hearing, especially nerve decompression, which may have played a key role.”

Her ENT team was also shocked by this and decided to temporarily put the cochlear implant treatment plan on hold. “There was a significant improvement in her audiogram,” confirmed Dr. Ashraf Master, an ENT surgeon.

She used to rely on others for help when she made phone calls, but now she can talk to people freely. “Before, our conversation with her was almost one-way, she talked and we listened,” said her daughter Tezbi with emotion, “Now, she is really back.”

Even her husband, Dr. Abbas, expressed disbelief: “At first I couldn’t believe it. But now I can only thank God. I didn’t expect that dental treatment would allow her to hear the world.”

Is this change a scientific accident or a miracle hidden in the molars? The medical community cannot fully explain it. But for Jaibunisha, this unexpected recovery allowed her to regain the bridge to communicate with the world and regain the dignity and joy of being with her family.
