Free Dental Clinic Stops By Coralville

The Iowa Mission of Mercy (IMOM) stopped by Coralville last weekend to provide free dental care to residents who face challenges with dental insurance and costs. The event, held at the Coralville Community Center, offered a full range of services, from routine cleanings and fillings to extractions and oral health education.

Organizers reported that hundreds of patients lined up early in the morning, eager to receive care. Many attendees expressed relief and gratitude, citing high dental costs as a barrier to regular treatment. “I haven’t seen a dentist in over three years because of the cost,” said local resident Mary Thompson. “Today, I got a cleaning and even some advice on managing my teeth at home—it’s life-changing.”

IMOM, a volunteer-based organization, brings together licensed dentists, hygienists, and support staff from across the state to deliver care to underserved communities. The Coralville event marked one of several stops across Iowa this year, with the goal of improving oral health outcomes and raising awareness about the importance of preventive care.

Dr. James Miller, one of the volunteer dentists at the event, emphasized the significance of such programs. “Dental health is often overlooked, yet it affects overall well-being. Many people delay treatment due to cost, which can lead to serious health issues. Our mission is to remove those barriers and provide care for those who need it most,” he said.

In addition to treatments, the clinic offered free dental hygiene kits, oral health information, and referrals for follow-up care. Organizers hope to expand future events to reach even more communities in Iowa and encourage regular dental check-ups.

With events like this, residents who previously faced obstacles to care can now maintain healthier smiles and enjoy greater peace of mind, demonstrating the lasting impact of volunteer-driven dental initiatives.
