Oral Health Urged as Pinay Dentist Calls on Filipinos to Prioritize Dental Care in 2026

As the new year begins, a Filipino dentist is encouraging the public to include oral health among their key goals for 2026, stressing that a healthy smile is closely tied to overall well-being.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Dr. Camille Ampong, founder of Ampong Dental and the company behind the Whitening Touch-Up Pen, said many Filipinos continue to overlook dental care despite its long-term impact on health and quality of life.

“In 2026, prioritize your dental health,” Ampong said. “By understanding common dental problems and how to prevent them, people can avoid pain, expensive procedures, and future complications.”

She emphasized that good oral health starts at home, not just in the dental clinic. According to Ampong, daily habits such as proper brushing for at least two minutes, flossing, tongue cleaning, wearing retainers after braces, and attending routine check-ups are often neglected. Over time, ignoring these steps can lead to gum disease and tooth loss.

To raise awareness, Ampong shared practical dental advice for the year ahead. She noted that tooth decay remains the most common dental issue in the Philippines and advised limiting sugary food and drinks, especially between meals, while brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.

“When brushing isn’t possible, rinsing with water after sweet foods can help,” she said, adding that dental visits every six months are essential.

Ampong also addressed gum disease, warning that bleeding gums are not normal but an early sign of a problem. She recommended daily flossing or using interdental brushes and quitting smoking to reduce risks.

Tooth staining and discoloration were also highlighted as common concerns, linked to frequent consumption of coffee, tea, soy sauce, bagoong, and tobacco. Over time, these habits can affect both appearance and confidence.

Bad breath, she added, is another widespread issue that can be socially distressing. Staying hydrated and cleaning the tongue regularly can help, but persistent bad breath may signal underlying dental or health conditions.

Ampong, who recently launched DentoFacial Contour Plus—a service combining dental and facial contouring techniques—said her practice focuses on functional, long-term smile solutions. Using digital scanners and imaging, Ampong Dental aims to deliver precise and efficient treatment across all branches.

“What makes Ampong Dental unique is its patient-first philosophy,” she said. “Standardized care ensures the same level of quality wherever patients go.”
