The Fauquier Free Clinic will once again provide free dental care to adults facing financial or access barriers during its annual Piedmont Smiles event. The fourth annual event is set for Saturday, Oct. 18, at Liberty High School in Bealeton.
Piedmont Smiles serves residents across Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Orange, and Madison counties. Organizers expect hundreds of patients and volunteers to attend for a full day of no-cost, high-quality dental treatment.
For many local families, dental insurance remains out of reach. When finances are tight, dental care is often the first expense cut, leading to untreated pain that can affect daily life. “That’s why the Fauquier Free Clinic and its supporting partners stepped in,” the clinic said in a statement.
The event is held in partnership with the Mission of Mercy (MOM) dental project. The high school gymnasium is transformed into a temporary dental clinic, featuring 36 dental chairs, mobile X-ray units, triage areas, and temporary plumbing and air and water systems.
Hundreds of volunteers, including dental professionals, translators, general helpers, and students and faculty from the VCU School of Dentistry and Howard University, participate in the event. Their combined efforts create an efficient, patient-centered experience.
“This isn’t just about fixing teeth,” said a member of the Fauquier Free Clinic team. “It’s about showing up for people who’ve had to go without—relieving pain, restoring confidence, and reminding our neighbors they’re not forgotten.”
Patients can receive a wide range of services in a single day. These include cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, and oral health education. Many patients arrive in significant discomfort, often having gone years without dental care. By the end of the day, many leave with relief—and a smile.
Since its launch, Piedmont Smiles has treated more than 700 people. This year, organizers hope to expand that number further. Bilingual volunteers and providers will be available to ensure that language is never a barrier to care.
“Every effort is made to meet people where they are—with dignity, empathy, and respect,” the Fauquier Free Clinic said in its press release.
The event highlights the importance of accessible dental care in communities where financial or logistical challenges prevent residents from receiving treatment. By bringing care directly to those in need, Piedmont Smiles helps reduce pain, prevent future dental problems, and improve overall health and quality of life.
Residents in need of services are encouraged to attend early, as appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Fauquier Free Clinic continues to rely on volunteers and community support to make this event possible.
Piedmont Smiles stands as a reminder that health care extends beyond the clinic walls. Through the efforts of dedicated volunteers and organizations, hundreds of local adults will gain access to care, relief from pain, and renewed confidence this Saturday.
