Swindon Dental Clinic Reopens with Thousands of Urgent Appointments for Unregistered Patients

A dental clinic in Swindon has reopened with an expanded facility, offering thousands of new urgent appointment slots for people who need immediate dental care. Abbey Meads Dental Practice, located in Swindon, now provides urgent appointments to patients with severe toothaches, broken teeth, and worsening mouth infections, even if they are not registered with the practice.

The new service comes after many in Wiltshire have experienced long waits for dental appointments, sometimes stretching into several months. Parents have particularly struggled to find dental support for their children. The revamped clinic now has 11 treatment rooms. The reopening was marked on 16 January with a visit from a health minister along with local officials, including Swindon North MP Will Stone and the town’s Mayor Fay Howard.

Jonathan Bouwer-Davies, the chief dentist at the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, said the increased appointment availability will make a significant difference for those needing urgent dental attention. According to Ebrahim Iravani, the business manager at Abbey Meads, the changes will help people of all ages in Swindon, especially young children, to access needed dental care more easily.

In the past year, the dental centre has also run school-based screenings, reaching over 5,000 children from 15 different schools in the Swindon region. These efforts came after data showed that local children are more likely to need tooth extractions in hospital than children in other parts of the country.

With the introduction of more urgent care slots and outreach to local schools, the practice hopes to address long-standing issues of access to dental care and improve overall oral health in the Swindon community.
