Tartar Shield Pro Care Natural Pet Toothpaste has received the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) Seal of Acceptance for its proven ability to control tartar in dogs. The coconut oil–based formula, made with all-natural and nature-derived ingredients, is the first chemically active pet toothpaste to earn the designation.
The recognition, ratified by the American Veterinary Dental College Board of Directors, underscores the toothpaste’s clinically demonstrated effectiveness in reducing tartar accumulation and supporting preventive oral health in veterinary practice.
The VOHC, composed of nine members including veterinary dentists, dental scientists, and a nonvoting director, reviews submitted clinical data to ensure products meet standards for plaque and tartar control. “When a product demonstrates dental efficacy, the VOHC Seal of Acceptance is awarded,” the council explains.
Clinical studies conducted under VOHC protocols showed that Tartar Shield Pro Care significantly reduces tartar, plaque, and halitosis with topical application alone, requiring no brushing device. The company emphasizes that this reflects its commitment to science-driven performance and advancing pet oral care.
“Tartar Shield has demonstrated a strong commitment to scientific rigor and to supporting the VOHC’s mission to provide assurance of clinical efficacy for pet oral care,” said Ellen Lowery, DVM, PhD, director of the VOHC.
Founded in the U.S. in 1998, the VOHC Seal of Acceptance is recognized globally, including in Canada, Europe, and Japan, as a mark of clinically proven pet dental products.
