Henry Schein One has announced a suite of natively embedded artificial intelligence (AI) and automation features at the 2025 Greater New York Dental Meeting. The updates include new voice-based documentation tools and expanded digital workflows designed to support practice efficiency, data accuracy and coordinated patient care.
According to the company, the developments reflect its ongoing strategy to incorporate AI into routine practice processes, from patient intake to claims handling, with the aim of reducing administrative workload and supporting operational consistency across dental practices.
One of the new features is the enhanced digital forms workflow, which allows patient insurance information to be captured from a photograph of an insurance card. The tool is intended to streamline data entry, reduce manual errors and improve accuracy at the front desk. Smile Brands reported that the system had helped reduce administrative time and improved the overall patient experience during its rollout across practices using Ascend.
Another addition, Eligibility Pro, retrieves real-time benefits information from insurance portals, helping teams access up-to-date coverage information before the patient’s appointment.
At the clinical level, Detect AI, developed in partnership with VideaHealth, is designed to support diagnostic decision-making by identifying features such as caries and bone loss on radiographs. A new Impact Panel aims to further support patient understanding of treatment needs.
The company has also introduced Voice Notes, a documentation feature that uses generative AI to transcribe conversations and generate clinical summaries in real time. Henry Schein One states that this tool may help reduce administrative burden for clinicians.
Additional updates include an integrated phone system that links patient communication to their electronic records, providing teams with relevant information when calls are received. Automated summaries generated after each call are designed to support consistency in patient communication.
A multilingual virtual assistant, Claire, is also now available around the clock to provide support via chat or phone.
Henry Schein One notes that these tools are part of a broader plan to support integrated workflows across the dental care pathway — including scheduling, diagnostics, treatment planning, documentation and claims.
Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce predictive scheduling tools, AI-supported documentation and coding features, and expanded analytics designed to give practices a clearer view of clinical and operational performance.
