Dental Implants Workshop at IADSR Boosts Skills of General Dental Practitioners

The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) recently organized a one-day workshop on dental implants for general dental practitioners, offering focused, hands-on training in this rapidly evolving field.

The workshop was held as part of IADSR’s 20th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD) and aimed to strengthen practitioners’ clinical knowledge and practical skills in implant dentistry.

The session was led by Dr. Amin-Ur-Rahman, a distinguished dental professional with an extensive academic background, including faculty appointments at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the United States. He opened the workshop with an overview of implant trends and historical developments, providing context for current clinical practices.

Dr. Rahman delivered detailed instruction on the anatomy of the alveolar bone and its relationship to natural teeth and dental implants. He explained the differences between tissue-level and bone-level implants, discussing their materials, indications and clinical applications.

A major focus of the workshop was surgical technique. Dr. Rahman outlined step-by-step guidelines for implant placement, stressing the importance of careful planning and effective communication to achieve predictable outcomes. He also addressed common causes of implant failure, covering both early and late complications and strategies to reduce associated risks.

Participants took part in hands-on training using typodont models, allowing them to practice implant procedures in a controlled environment. This practical component was widely praised, as it enabled attendees to apply theoretical knowledge and gain experience relevant to real clinical situations.

The workshop also included discussions of real-life case scenarios, such as single and multiple tooth replacements and cemented and screw-retained prostheses, further enhancing its practical value.

Attendees provided positive feedback, highlighting the depth of information, interactive format and relevance to everyday practice. The program reinforced IADSR’s commitment to continuing professional development and high-quality dental education.

As dental implants continue to play a central role in modern dentistry, IADSR officials noted that such training programs remain essential to help practitioners stay current and deliver high standards of patient care.
