Ahmedabad Police Bust Illegal Clinic, Arrest Unlicensed ‘Doctor’

On Tuesday, the Ahmedabad Rural Special Operations Group (SOG) raided an illegal allopathic clinic in Saraswati Nagar in Changodar district and arrested an unlicensed practitioner. The suspect, originally from Purbhanagar in Nadia district, West Bengal, currently resides nearby.

Despite having only a high school education and no formal medical qualifications, the man had long operated a family allopathic clinic in the area, providing so-called treatments.

The raid was coordinated by Dr. Kantibai Kapadia, director of the Sanatal Primary Health Center. Law enforcement officers seized a large number of drugs and medical devices belonging to various pharmaceutical companies, with a total value of approximately 40,696 rupees.

A case has been filed at the Changodar police station under the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963, which explicitly prohibits unregistered practitioners from practicing medicine.

Police are further investigating whether the suspect caused harm to patients during his illegal practice and the source of the medical supplies.

The arrests are part of a district-wide crackdown on illegal and fake medical practitioners. Previously, Medical Dialogue reported that the SOG also arrested a man posing as an allopathic doctor in the Doleshwar Nagar area near the Changodar post office.

The man, without a recognized medical degree, operated an illegal clinic on Shakti Avenue in Moraiya village near the Changodar-Tajpur road. Police stated that they will continue to crack down on unlicensed medical practices to protect public health and safety.
