Jinnah Medical and Dental College’s (JMDC) Community Dentistry team recently conducted an oral health awareness session at the Luminary Learning Circle Foundation, Javed Miandad Campus, in Karachi, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote preventive dental care among children.
Led by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Haider, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Community Dentistry at JMDC, the initiative focused on educating students from grades 1 to 5 about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene from an early age. The session aimed to help children develop healthy habits that can prevent dental problems later in life.
A key component of the program was hands-on dental screening. A total of 340 students received individual oral examinations conducted by Dr. Arish Sohail, Aimen Imran, and four House Officers—Zarmeena, Hamna, Anoosha, and Sadia. The team visited classrooms and worked in coordination with the school administration to ensure comprehensive coverage.
The session also featured interactive demonstrations on proper tooth-brushing techniques. Using dental models, the JMDC team explained correct brushing methods and highlighted the role of daily oral care in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. The practical approach helped keep students engaged while reinforcing essential dental care messages.
The Principal of Luminary Learning Circle expressed appreciation for the initiative, thanking the JMDC team for their efforts in promoting oral health awareness. The program was praised for supporting the school’s goal of equipping students with lifelong health practices.
This outreach activity reflects JMDC’s broader commitment to community service, preventive healthcare, and experiential learning for future dental professionals. By engaging directly with young students, the college continues to strengthen its role in advancing public dental health in Karachi.
The success of the program underscores the importance of early intervention and community engagement in improving oral health outcomes across Pakistan, reinforcing the message that healthy smiles begin with informed dental care habits.
