A criminal investigation has been launched in the western Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod after a 12-year-old girl died following treatment at a private dental clinic.
According to preliminary findings, the child suffered an anaphylactic shock after being given anesthesia during a dental procedure, the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office said.
The incident occurred on January 5, when the girl was taken by ambulance from the private clinic to a hospital. She remained in a coma in the intensive care unit for nine days before dying.
Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances that led to the severe complications during treatment.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 1 of Article 115 (intentional homicide) and Part 2 of Article 140 (improper performance of professional duties by medical staff) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The charges carry a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
Law enforcement agencies are collecting medical records, questioning clinic staff, and conducting other investigative measures. Particular attention is being paid to how anesthesia was administered and whether doctors followed established safety protocols.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities say further information will be released as it becomes available and in accordance with legal and procedural requirements.
