Vista Community Clinic has received a $3.5 million federal grant to expand its Dad’s Club program, strengthening support for fathers and families across North San Diego County, the nonprofit announced in November.
The funding, awarded over five years at $700,000 annually, will allow the clinic to broaden the reach of Dad’s Club, an initiative that helps fathers improve parenting skills, communication, and family stability. The program also provides guidance on conflict resolution and financial well-being and has operated locally for several years.
Clinic CEO Fernando Sanudo said the grant recognizes the program’s proven impact.
“This award reflects the measurable difference Dad’s Club has already made in our community,” Sanudo said in a news release. “With this funding, we can reach more families and expand the program’s long-term impact.”
He added that participants often enter the program facing communication challenges and leave with stronger relationships, healthier parenting skills, and renewed confidence.
U.S. Rep. Mike Levin (D-49th District) also praised the investment, saying it will help strengthen families and support long-term community stability throughout the region.
“Organizations like Vista Community Clinic are leading the way in community health and family stability,” Levin said. “This $3.5 million federal grant allows the clinic to continue its essential work supporting dads in our community.”
The announcement comes as Vista Community Clinic also expands its healthcare footprint. Last month, the organization unveiled a new pediatric and family dentistry location in Oceanside at 815 College Blvd.
Sanudo said the new site will improve access to dental care for families who may otherwise face barriers due to cost or insurance status.
“This location allows us to reach more families and ensure children and adults have access to compassionate dental care in a welcoming environment,” he said.
The Oceanside site will provide preventive and restorative dental services, including exams, cleanings, and treatments for children, adults, and seniors. The clinic emphasized a focus on affordability and access.
“Dental care is essential to overall health,” said Dr. Rebecca Cornille, Vista Community Clinic’s chief dental officer. “This new site strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality, affordable care and support healthier communities.”
The Oceanside dental clinic joins Vista Community Clinic’s broader network, which serves more than 70,000 patients across North San Diego, Orange, and Riverside counties. The organization operates multiple health centers offering primary care, behavioral health services, and wellness education.
