Ontario residents aged 65 and over with low incomes can now receive publicly funded dental care under the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP). The program targets seniors without other dental benefits and covers a broad range of treatments.
To qualify, single seniors must report a net annual income below $25,000. Couples must have a combined net income of $41,500 or less.
Applicants must be Ontario residents aged 65 or older and have no access to dental coverage from private insurers or other government programs, such as the Ontario Disability Support Program or the Non-Insured Health Benefits Program.
Financial eligibility is verified using a senior’s net income shown on line 236 of their income tax return. A provincial processing centre will check completed applications and confirm income.
Approved applicants will receive a welcome package and a dental card in the mail. The dental card will expire on July 31. Once the card arrives, seniors may book dental appointments.
Application forms will be available online from the Ministry of Health and as paper copies at all Algoma Public Health offices. The provincial processing centre will handle submissions and confirmations.
Covered services include:
Examinations and assessments
Preventive care (for example, cleanings)
Restorative services for broken teeth and cavities
X-rays
Oral surgery, including tooth and abnormal tissue removal
Anaesthesia
Endodontic treatment for infection and pain
Periodontal care for gum disease
Prosthodontic services, including dentures, to a limited extent
The program aims to remove financial barriers to dental care for vulnerable seniors and to improve access to essential oral health services.
