Thanks to screening and early detection there has been a reduction in mortality rate of cancer patients. Substantial proportions of cancers could be prevented if one is aware of the changes occurring in your body.

What is Cancer?

Our body is composed of thousands of cells, these are the building blocks that make up our body’s organs and tissue. As mentioned, a tumor is a mass of abnormal cell tissue. If one is not aware of the changes occurring in the breast, cancer can occurred and turn into a danger to your health. Today, doctors have labeled tumors into 2 types, tumors can be non-cancerous or cancerous. In the case of breast cancer, whether you are female or male, this type of cancer can affect both sexes.

Tumors Type

BENIGN TUMORS

Benign tumors are usually not aggressive and normally do not damage surrounding tissue, your oncologist will usually not operate or remove this type of tumor. However if they continue to grow the tumor can press organs, causing pain and other health problem; when this happens the tumor has to be removed and it becomes a malignant tumor.

MALIGNANT TUMORS

This type of tumor is an aggressive tumors that affect our body normal functions and damage its surrounding. To determine if the tumor is malignant or benign the oncologist will perform a biopsy. The biopsy will determine the severity or aggressiveness of the tumor.

METASTATIC CANCER

Metastatic cancer is when malignant tumor have spread to other parts of the body; affecting your tissue size and form, in many cases a secondary tumor is formed.

Risk Factors

There are several risk factors involve with cancer, some of these can prevented, but others can’t. However, having risk factors does not guarantee that a women or men will develop breast cancer.

Risk Factors includes: Gender – Age – Race – Family History and Genetic Factors – Personal Health History – Certain Genome Changes – Dense Breast Tissue.

Fact: 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Signs, Symptoms and Prevention

Fact: Although breast cancer in men is rare; there is an estimate of 2,000 men who will be diagnosed with this disease each year and more than 400 will die.
