Amazon Highlights Dental Insurance, Employee Benefits, and Economic Impact in New York

For more than 30 years, Amazon has been investing across the United States, strengthening local economies and creating opportunities for communities nationwide.

In New York, the company has built a significant presence since 2013, turning the Empire State into a hub for innovation, logistics, and retail operations.

Investing in Employees

Amazon continues to invest heavily in its workforce, offering competitive pay and comprehensive benefits from the first day of employment.

Front-line workers in fulfillment and transportation earn an average base wage of over $23 per hour, with total compensation exceeding $30 when benefits are included.

Employees receive health, dental, and vision insurance starting immediately, as well as up to 20 weeks of fully paid parental leave, a 401(k) plan with a 50% company match, and flexible time-off options that grow with tenure.

Beyond direct employment, Amazon’s operations in New York support around 33,000 indirect jobs in sectors such as construction, logistics, and professional services.

Investing in Workforce Development

Amazon is also focused on workforce development and upskilling. Since 2019, more than 425,000 U.S. employees have participated in free education and training programs.

In New York, the company partners with 20 educational institutions through its Career Choice program, which fully prepays tuition for employees pursuing degrees or certifications.

Partnerships with schools in the CUNY and SUNY systems help workers gain in-demand skills for emerging industries.

Through initiatives like Career Choice and Machine Learning University, Amazon is building a pipeline of skilled talent ready for future opportunities.

Building Statewide Infrastructure

Since 2010, Amazon has invested $52.3 billion in infrastructure and employee compensation in New York, contributing an estimated $46 billion to the state’s GDP.

The company’s footprint includes 10 fulfillment and sortation centers, 35 delivery stations, and four Prime Now facilities.

Amazon’s retail network has also expanded, with 32 Whole Foods Market locations, three Amazon Fresh stores, and two Amazon Go stores across the state. Five facilities now feature on-site solar power, reflecting Amazon’s continued push toward sustainability.

Empowering Small Businesses

Amazon provides critical support to New York’s entrepreneurs and small businesses, helping them connect with global customers. In 2024, independent sellers from New York sold more than 769 million products through Amazon’s store, averaging about $565,000 in annual sales each.

Small and medium-sized businesses now account for over 60% of Amazon’s total store sales. More than 65% of these sellers employ at least one person within 50 miles of their main business location.

By offering infrastructure, logistics, and access to a massive customer base, Amazon enables local businesses to expand and create additional jobs.

Strengthening Local Communities

Amazon’s growing investment in New York highlights its long-term commitment to economic growth and job creation. Through its focus on workforce development, infrastructure, and small business support, the company continues to build a stronger and more resilient economy across the Empire State.
