The federal government’s Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is now open to Canadians of all ages, marking the completion of the program’s nationwide rollout.
The CDCP provides no-cost dental insurance for eligible residents, covering essential services such as cleanings, X-rays, exams, fillings, and other common treatments.
The program began in 2023 with seniors aged 70 and older and has now expanded to include all age groups.
To qualify, applicants must:
Have a net adjusted family income below $90,000 per year
Lack other dental insurance coverage, such as through employment, school, or a partner’s plan
Be Canadian residents for tax purposes
Have filed an income tax return for the previous year
Dental offices across eastern Ontario, including the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU), are now accepting patients covered under the plan. Those with a regular dentist are advised to confirm whether their provider accepts CDCP coverage.
For individuals without a regular dentist, the EOHU offers fully covered dental services through the CDCP. Eligible clients can schedule appointments by calling 613-933-1375 or 1-800-267-7120. Bookings are open now, with appointments starting in early November.
The EOHU also provides dental care for clients enrolled in Ontario Works (OW), the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP), and Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO).
“Dental care is an essential part of overall health, but cost can often make it inaccessible,” said Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of the EOHU. “We are proud to help make dental care more affordable by accepting the CDCP at our clinics. I encourage all eligible residents to apply.”
