Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) has significantly expanded its dental care capabilities with the addition of a state-of-the-art 3D Panorex imaging machine, improving access to advanced treatment for patients in the region.
The new dental equipment was purchased through a grant from Delta Dental of Virginia, which also funded the replacement of three outdated X-ray units at RAHC’s Buena Vista clinic. The upgrades are expected to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve overall patient care.
With the 3D Panorex system now in place, RAHC’s dental team can perform more complex procedures on site, reducing the need to refer patients to specialists located hours away. Previously, long travel distances often led patients to delay or forgo necessary dental treatment due to time and transportation challenges.
The replacement of the aging X-ray machines at the Buena Vista clinic further strengthens diagnostic capabilities by providing clearer, higher-quality images, allowing providers to make more precise clinical decisions.
“Having this level of advanced technology in a rural setting is a game-changer,” said Dr. Stuart Fargiano, dental director at Rockbridge Area Health Center. He noted that many patients had postponed treatment because traveling several hours for specialty care was too difficult. “This machine removes that barrier. It’s about providing timely, quality care and eliminating travel-related stress for our community,” he said.
The grant reflects Delta Dental of Virginia’s ongoing commitment to improving oral health access and outcomes across the state, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
