DentaQuest Donates $30,000 to University of Iowa Dental Clinic’s Geriatric Program

WELLESLEY, Mass., Jan. 15, 2026 — DentaQuest, part of Sun Life U.S., has contributed $30,000 to the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics. The donation will support the college’s Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry Program, which provides specialized care for older adults and individuals with complex medical or behavioral needs.

The funding aims to attract and train dental residents in geriatric and special needs care, addressing the growing demand for specialists as the U.S. population aged 65 and older increases. The program has graduated 19 residents so far, helping to fill faculty shortages nationwide.

“This contribution from DentaQuest and Sun Life is an important investment in the clinicians and educators who will shape the future of geriatric and special needs dentistry,” said Dr. Leonardo Marchini, chair of the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry. “Our residents gain experience caring for patients with complex needs, and support like this allows us to expand training and reach more vulnerable populations.”

The program is recognized for its leadership in improving access to oral care for institutionalized older adults, including the use of mobile dental units.

“Sun Life and DentaQuest are proud to support programs that strengthen care for those facing the greatest barriers to oral health,” said Dr. Todd Gray, chief dental officer at Sun Life U.S. “By cultivating emerging leaders and educators, we are investing in a future where more patients receive the tailored, compassionate care they need.”

DentaQuest has previously supported Iowa community organizations such as Mission of Mercy and Focus on Diabetes and continues to back academic dental programs nationwide, including at the University of Oklahoma and Louisiana State University.
