Three members of a London family have been sentenced for orchestrating a dental insurance fraud worth over £350,000. The case, led by the City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (Ifed), concluded at Wood Green Crown Court after a four-week trial.
Bozena Rak-Latos, 63, Kacper Latos, 36, and Magdalena Latos, 33, were found guilty of fraud by false representation and conspiracy to defraud.
Rak-Latos, a former dentist from Olympian Court, Regents Park Road, received a 24-month suspended sentence and 180 hours of unpaid work. Her daughter Magdalena, at the same address, was sentenced to 18 months suspended and 150 hours of unpaid work. Son Kacper, of Castleton House, Aerodrome Road, received a 20-month suspended sentence and 90 hours of unpaid work.
The fraud was executed through BRL Dentos, trading as Diamond Dental and Medical Clinic in Finchley. Between August 2020 and June 2021, the clinic submitted £356,587 in claims to Simply Health, of which £141,618 was paid.
Investigators discovered 113 insurance policies set up under seven companies, falsely listing patients as employees to qualify for corporate dental insurance schemes.
Rak-Latos, struck off by the General Dental Council in 2018 after a prior fraud conviction in Poland, directed the scheme from behind the scenes through her children. Evidence included videos, audio recordings, and documents showing her instructing her son and daughter on submitting claims, responding to insurer queries, and covering up the fraud.
Kacper, registered with the General Dental Council in June 2020, submitted inflated or fabricated claims, some paid into his personal account. Magdalena, handling reception and marketing, expanded the operation by opening business accounts, liaising with brokers, and pursuing claims.
Detective Sergeant Alan Yau of Ifed said: “This was a deeply calculated fraud, orchestrated by a former dentist who used her professional knowledge and personal influence to manipulate both her son and daughter.”
