Hackensack College Dental Clinic Earns National Recognition for Expanding Healthcare Access

The Hackensack College Dental Clinic has been nationally recognized for its outstanding role in improving access to healthcare. According to an independent evaluation by Impact Genome, the clinic achieved a 100% effectiveness rate, a remarkable top score.

The clinic’s impact on healthcare access and advocacy places it ahead of 99% of similar programs nationwide. Furthermore, it received the prestigious “Strong Evidence of Effectiveness” rating, a distinction achieved by only 39% of programs in this field.

Dr. Staci Violante, Director of the Hackensack College Dental Hygiene Program, emphasized the significance of this recognition: “This confirms what our community has long recognized—that the Hackensack Dental Clinic is making a profound difference in people’s lives.

Our students gain valuable hands-on experience, enabling them to provide affordable, high-quality care, while our patients receive essential dental services they might not otherwise have access to.”

The program, housed at the Abram and Goldie Cohen Dental Center, serves the uninsured and underinsured populations. The clinic’s dual mission of education and service ensures that both students and patients benefit.

The clinic serves over 1,000 patients annually and hosts free community events, including a sealant program aimed at preventing cavities in teenagers.

The clinic is open five days a week by appointment only and offers a wide range of services, including oral cancer screenings, periodontal and restorative charting, teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments, preventive oral health coaching, home care assistance, dental nutrition counseling, sealants, X-rays, and non-surgical periodontal treatments.
