EFFINGHAM, Ill., Sept. 8, 2025 — Heartland Dental, one of the world’s largest dental support organizations (DSOs), has closed a key transaction with Smile Design Dentistry, expanding its presence in Florida and strengthening its national network of supported practices.
With the deal complete, Heartland Dental now supports more than 3,100 doctors across 1,880 locations in 39 states and the District of Columbia.
Expanding in Florida’s Growing Market
The partnership significantly increases Heartland Dental’s footprint in Florida, a state where demand for dental care is rising among families, aging adults, and seniors. Smile Design Dentistry, founded more than 20 years ago, operates 60 practices across Central Florida and the Tampa Bay region. Its offices provide a wide range of services, from preventive and restorative care to pediatric, cosmetic, emergency, and specialty dentistry.
Under the leadership of Chief Dental Officer Dr. Mili Patel and CEO Sachin Patel, Smile Design Dentistry has built a strong reputation rooted in collaboration and growth. Both leaders emphasized that the organization shares Heartland Dental’s commitment to a doctor-led culture and patient-centered care.

Access to Advanced Resources and Technology
Through the transaction, Smile Design Dentistry practices will gain access to Heartland Dental’s extensive support services and technology platforms. These include AI-powered diagnostic tools from VideaAI, remineralization technology from Curodont, and Align Technology’s Invisalign® clear aligners and iTero™ intraoral scanners.
Teams will also benefit from Heartland Dental University, the nation’s largest education platform for clinical, operational, and leadership training. Additional support will come from national teams specializing in marketing, IT, human resources, operations, payer relations, clinical supplies, and laboratory services.
