There’s a new kid on the block – Planmeca have just announced the PlanMill 60 S, a brand new lab milling unit to join their portfolio of CAD/CAM technology.
The new PlanMill 60 S is able to produce dentures, full arch restorations, night guards, surgical guides and up to 25 crowns in a single disc.
The PlanMill 60 S looks to have similar features to the PlanMill 50 S, except the PlanMill 60 S has a reduced automatic bur changer capability from 12 to 10.
Interestingly, the PlanMill 60 S is actually a white labelled version of the Imes iCore 150i. It looks like Planmeca didn’t think investing the resources to create an entirely new milling machine was worth it, when a great option in the Imes iCore 150i was already available.
This is actually quite common in digital dentistry. Companies often collaborate with each other borrow proven existing technology to release a product under their own brand. A common example is when a company that sells a mill or software releases a white labelled intraoral scanner so that they can sell dentists a complete portfolio of equipment.

It’s exciting to see that the PlanMill 60 S will be moving towards further opening up their architecture, making it much easier to integrate in a range of different digital workflows.
