Polygon Dental Practice in Southampton Told to Improve Leadership and Dental Care

Polygon Dental Practice on Kenilworth Road in Southampton has been asked to improve its leadership after a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection found it did not meet all regulatory requirements.

The practice was inspected on November 13, 2025. While most areas met required standards, the CQC highlighted that the “well-led” aspect of the service needed improvement.

The report stated: “We found that the practice has not met all regulations. The practice had some systems to identify and manage risks. The leadership and oversight for the day-to-day management of the service needed improvements.”

Inspectors also noted that recruitment procedures did not fully reflect current legislation, and systems to support continuous improvement were ineffective.

Polygon Dental Practice provides NHS and private care for both adults and children. Inspectors confirmed that care and treatment were delivered in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect, and staff were broadly skilled and experienced.

The practice has four treatment rooms and 14 staff, including four dentists, two dental nurses, two trainee nurses, two dental hygienists, three receptionists, and a practice manager. Parking is available, including disabled spaces, though the entrance, raised two steps above ground, restricts access for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

A CQC spokesperson said: “The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.”

On the day of the inspection, seven patients provided positive feedback. They said appointments were timely, they did not feel rushed, and they received clear information about treatment, costs, and prescribed medicines. Patients also felt involved in decisions about their care.

The practice said patient feedback was shared with staff and reviewed, with actions taken where necessary. Polygon Dental Practice did not respond to requests for comment at the time of publication.
