Singapore National Dental Centre, Yuyi Launch AI Portable Oral Screening Device

The National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) and Yuyi Dental Pte. Ltd. have partnered to launch a portable dental screening device that allows quick oral examinations in clinics, schools and even at home using a mobile phone.

Yuyi Dental CEO Alan Lee told Asia Medical that the platform, called iOOELI, can detect common oral problems such as cavities, gum disease, crooked teeth and deep overbites in less than a minute.

The system captures images of the inside of the mouth through a mobile device and uploads them to the cloud. It is driven by artificial intelligence and compares the images with patient data, automatically marking abnormalities and recommending follow-up treatment plans for dentists.

Dentists can customize diagnostic reports as needed and share them with patients through mobile applets, PDFs or WeChat, monitoring patient engagement and willingness for follow-up treatment in real time.

Market research firm SNS Insider predicts that the global dental imaging market will grow from US$8.6 billion in 2023 to approximately US$86.1 billion in 2032, with the Asia-Pacific region expected to be the fastest growing market.

According to the Singapore Ministry of Health, more than half of Singaporeans visit dentists every year, and 60% actively seek preventive care.

NDCS plans to take the lead in promoting this device in projects such as gum disease in the elderly, children’s oral health, teledentistry and orthodontics.

Yu Na, innovation director of NDCS, said that the platform will support data collection and automatic risk detection, reduce dependence on professionals, and promote cross-professional cooperation in the field of dentistry, especially in remote patient management.

In addition, the two parties will establish an oral health innovation fund to support the development of new technologies, clinical testing and scalable solutions, while promoting the development of a skilled team and local enterprises.
