Temple University Opens New Clinic in Spring Garden to Expand Dental Care Access

Philadelphia residents in Spring Garden and Center City now have a new option for dental care. Temple University’s Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry has opened a Faculty Dental Clinic at 545 N. Broad St., offering general and orthodontic services in an area with few dental offices.

Dean Amid Ismail said the clinic allows faculty to maintain and advance their clinical skills while serving Temple’s community. “The school’s mission is clinical excellence, generating knowledge for practice, and community service,” he said.

Clinic Director Cynthia Jetter highlighted the facility’s advanced technology. The 5,485-square-foot clinic features 12 treatment rooms and includes cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging, a specialized 3D technology for dental and oral surgical procedures. The clinic also accepts referrals from local dentists needing CBCT imaging for their patients.

Temple invested over $8 million in renovations and secured a 15-year lease for the site. The clinic replaces the faculty practice previously housed within Kornberg’s North Philadelphia location. General dentistry clinics, staffed by dental students supervised by licensed faculty, will remain at the main school, while the former faculty space will be repurposed for student training.

Ismail noted the school is attracting more national and international applicants due to its reputation, services, and technology.

The new clinic is part of Kornberg’s broader efforts to expand community dental services. The school plans to open its first rural dental education center in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, and in 2023 partnered with the School District of Philadelphia to launch a pediatric dental clinic at William D. Kelley Elementary School in North Philadelphia.
