University Proposes New Dental Surgery on City Campus

The University of Gloucestershire has submitted plans to convert part of its City Campus into a dental surgery. The facility is designed to provide practical training for students while offering dental care to the public.

Property consultants Alder King have been appointed to oversee the project, which involves transforming the third floor of the campus building into a fully equipped dental centre. Plans submitted to the city council outline six treatment rooms, an open-plan area with six treatment bays, an X-ray room, two classrooms, a patient waiting area, and staff facilities including showers and changing rooms.

A university spokesperson said the surgery is intended to “deliver benefits for students, staff, and the wider community.”

According to the application, most staff at the new facility would be drawn from existing university personnel.

Operating hours are expected to run Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., aligning with the schedules of students and staff.

Jo Charles, the university’s director of commercial and transformation, described the collaboration with Alder King as “exciting.” She added, “Their support will help us realise the full potential of the site more quickly and continue our transformation into a future-fit university at the heart of Gloucestershire.”

The planning application is currently open for public comment until Wednesday.
