3D printing, composite blocks and intraoral scanners
This year’s IDS in Cologne more than lived up to its reputation as the world’s leading trade fair for the international dental market once again. With well over 155,000 visitors from over 150 countries and 2,305 exhibitors from 59 countries, the 2017 International Dental Show smashed all existing records. The breadth and depth of the offering awaiting visitors across over 160,000 m2 of exhibition space was truly staggering. To put it simply, the IDS, held every two years, is a must for dentists, dental technicians, specialist dental retailers and the dental industry.
Focus on VOCO digital
At this year’s trade fair, VOCO’s numerous innovations met with a thoroughly positive response. It was also the first time that VOCO exhibited solutions for the digital workflow. The product innovations this spring include the IO-Scan intraoral scanner, which is the first of its kind to employ infrared lasers for the purpose of digital subgingival image capture. The SolFlex 3D printer for the production of dental models and splints is available with a corresponding range of printing materials as well as in different sizes for use in laboratories and practices.
Moreover, new additions to the company’s portfolio include Grandio blocs, the composite blocks for CAD/CAM applications with superior strengths, and Registrado Scan, a scannable bite registration material. “I have been using Grandio as a restorative material for many years now and think it’s a great development that I can now also use my trusted composite of choice as a block in our milling machine to produce crowns, etc.,” said one delighted trade fair visitor.
Further product innovations
Of course, VOCO also had innovations in store for the trade fair visitors in its “classic” fields of restorative and prosthetic dentistry as well as oral care. These include V-Posil, a particularly rapid VPS precision impression material, and Admira Fusion x-base. This flowable bulk-fill restorative material without conventional monomers complements the ceramic-based Admira Fusion product range. VOCO has also expanded its prophylaxis portfolio with CleanJoy SingleDose. The tried-and-tested cleaning and polishing paste for professional oral prophylaxis is now also available in handy single-dose blister packs. Furthermore, VOCO Profluorid Varnish, the popular fluoride varnish for tooth desensitisation, is now also available in bubble gum flavour.
Overwhelmingly positive response
The feedback received on the product innovations and on VOCO’s expansion into the digital sector in particular was overwhelming from VOCO managing director Olaf Sauerbier’s perspective: “Each and every one of our new products is the culmination of years of intensive research work, and we have managed to present our customers with products which each possess unique selling points, which offer considerable added value. However, we were still very surprised, and of course delighted, by the fact that feedback was so positive across the board and demand at our stand was higher than ever.”
In his opinion, the considerable interest in VOCO digital products is also confirmation of the confidence placed in the VOCO brand: “Our customers know that by using VOCO products they can rely on good quality in their practice, which is something that their patients in turn appreciate as well. They are also ready to place this confidence in our new developments. That is a great compliment paid to our work and something for which we are very grateful,” said Mr Sauerbier.
