Tissue Management the Fast & Easy Way

Digital or analog? Crown and bridge or veneers and implants? No matter the type of workflow or practice specialty, there’s one common thread that runs through all facets of dentistry: Successful treatments begin and end with effective hemostasis.

For Craig Aebli, DDS, MS, FAGD, who owns Oakport Dental in Sanford, FL, the reason he has relied on Ultradent’s ViscoStat for nearly 3 decades can be summed up with 2 words: “It works.”

“I was looking for an astringent hemostatic agent to use for restorative work,” recalled Dr. Aebli, who has been practicing for nearly 40 years. “As soon as I started using it, I knew it was perfect for my workflow and exactly what I needed—and I’ve used it ever since to control bleeding and tissue. I’ve relied on it throughout my whole career and I have not found anything else that’s comparable.”

Fast, Profound Hemostasis

A 20% ferric sulfate equivalent solution, ViscoStat contains inert binding agents that cause profound hemostasis, effectively putting a stop to bleeding within seconds. This saves valuable chair time for patients while offering a predictable tissue management solution for clinicians.

“I reach for ViscoStat primarily for crown and bridge treatments, and sometimes for fillings, especially if the prep is close to the tissue or if it’s a Class V along the gumline,” Dr. Aebli shared.

A viscous, aqueous material, ViscoStat won’t run or drip, allowing for precise placement regardless of the location. With a pH of about 1.0, ViscoStat is gentle on both hard and soft tissue.

The hemostatic eliminates sulcular fluid contamination, decreasing the chance of costly impression remakes and creating an optimal field for bonding. ViscoStat can be applied with Ultradent’s Metal Dento-Infusor tip with Comfort Hub.

An ’Absolute’ Essential

“It’s easy to dispense the solution with a syringe, and the metal infuser tip allows for a perfect application,” noted Dr. Aebli, adding that ViscoStat has a gel-like consistency, which ensures it stays in place.

“I just can’t do crown and bridge treatments without it,” he added. “If you’re doing restorative dentistry, especially crown and bridge, for me, it’s an absolute must. I always need my handpiece, diamond burs, and ViscoStat. That’s just the way it is!”
