Dentsply Sirona has made multiple donations of advanced dental equipment to Smile Train partners in India, China, and Indonesia. The initiative is intended to support cleft-care clinicians with technologies that improve diagnostic precision and patient experience.
The donations form part of Dentsply Sirona’s partnership with Smile Train, a cleft-focused organisation. Since the beginning of the collaboration, the company has made 34 donations to Smile Train partner centres worldwide, contributing to improved access to care for children born with cleft lips and/or palates.
The equipment includes technologies designed to capture accurate three-dimensional digital scans of patients’ mouths, reducing reliance on conventional impression materials. Among the items donated are the Primescan intraoral scanner, the Orthophos S 3D extraoral X-ray imaging system, and the inEos X5 digital dental lab scanner. These tools are expected to assist local clinicians in delivering care for people with cleft lips and/or palates who are referred to Smile Train partners.
Andrea Frohning, senior vice president and chief human resources officer at Dentsply Sirona, said: “We are proud to be making a difference in the lives of cleft-affected children and families in communities across Asia. By donating dental equipment to Smile Train partner centres and hospitals, we are helping expand access to oral care.”
Globally, one in 700 babies are born with cleft lips and/or palates, with prevalence rates in the Asia-Pacific region among the highest.
Susannah Schaefer, president and CEO of Smile Train, said: “At Smile Train, we know that when we empower local cleft care providers with the right tools, training, and technology, we transform not just individual lives, but entire communities. Dentsply Sirona’s latest donations underscore the power of partnerships that strengthen cleft care worldwide and improve children’s quality of life.”
