First, the Ceramill Matron milling machine launched since January 2024 will offer a 6mm collet chuck including matching milling cutters with a high-quality high-performance coating tailored to the respective materials. This comes in addition the tried-and-tested 3mm shank option.

This extended performance range aims to provide labs and practices with faster milling times, minimisation of tool wear by 50%, and greater cutter stability, particularly when processing carbide. This enables the Ceramill Matron perform demanding tasks in dental production.

The Ceramill Matron can be converted to a 3mm or 6mm collet at any time and without changing the spindle to provide flexibility for users. Using and changing the collet is simple and low-risk, as the machine guides users step-by-step through the entire process via its touch display.

The new milling cutters with a 6mm shank have also been colour-coded according to their intended use and contain integrated RFID transponders for clear identification and automatic transmission of tool data to the machine control system. In addition to querying the tool inventory, the remaining tool life of each tool can be determined by direct assignment and thus used in the best possible way. RFID-based tool management contributions to reducing production costs due to unused remaining tool life. According to the “plug & play” principle, the tools are automatically recognised and recorded by the machine from the first use.

Next, Amann Girrbach will be providing a new Ceramill Upgrade 4.7 for its Ceramill system software. The roll-out of the upgrade and the automatic installation process via the Software Manager will start in April and will then be carried out worldwide over the next few weeks.

Many other features from the Elefsina update have been adapted and fully integrated into the Ceramill workflow from scan to finish to ensure maximum process reliability in the fabrication of restorations. In a short online session, Hans-Peter Kulawy and Barbara Wetzel from Amann Girrbach will present tips and tricks on the new additional functions and how to use them during a Speedwebinar on 23 Apr at 08:00 and 15:00 in English.

The summary of the main highlights of upgrade 4.7 includes: New indication — Duplicate prosthesis, screw access for screw-retained implant work, virtual repair tool for the preparation margins, multi-tooth segmentation, optimised smile design preview, simultaneous construction of splints in the upper and lower jaw, individual parameters for each removable die and laboratory analog for 3D-printed models, update extension pack with all model types and attachments from Exocad for Ceramill M-Build, use of the 6 mm collet chuck for the Ceramill Matron, fabrication of hybrid abutments from block material with speedlining strategy, C-Clamp workpiece holder open for all soft materials, use of a generic 30mm zirconia blank, and preferred selection of holders and milling parameters is saved.

Last, the NextDent Cast Blue printing resin features improved material properties designed to be can be easily integrated into users existing workflows. The printing resin is an easily burnt-out and residue-free 3D printing resin with its new properties. If it is used with the recommended investment material and burnt out at the prescribed temperatures and times, the casting can be carried out in the preferred metal. Thanks to its high stability, it is ideally suited for printed support structures, model casting and orthodontic appliances.
