Innovative dentistry meets innovative driving. That’s the exciting news announced by the International Dental Implant Association, the world leader in continuing education and dental implant networking, and Tesla Motors, the pioneering automotive and energy storage company committed to bringing compelling and affordable electric cars to the market as soon as possible.
The International Dental Implant Association announced that the 6,000-member organisation has secured an agreement with Tesla Motors to offer free test drives of its Model S and Model X vehicles to all dentists who attend the organisation’s signature end-of-summer event: the 2016 Miami Symposium. Held on September 10 and 11 at the IDIA’s privately owned lecture hall in North Miami Beach, and the Trump International Beach Resort, the weekend was dedicated to both education and entertainment, and included a variety of engaging lectures designed to help doctors broaden their skills and grow their confidence.
Whether it’s learning how to read CBCT scans, furthering knowledge of the bone ring technique for implant dentistry, reviewing basic pharmacology considerations for the typical patient, discovering the latest advances in platelet-rich plasma, or learning how to better address and mitigate implant complications, the weekend mixes education and entertainment with expert precision while providing an atmosphere conducive to high-level networking and career advancement.
“One of the best ways to encourage that networking is by broadening the weekend experience,” said Dr. Arun K. Garg, IDIA founder and president. “Partnering with Tesla Motors demonstrates IDIA’s commitment to delivering the most groundbreaking opportunities for our doctors. And who knows, just maybe a meeting of the minds between an implant dentist and a Tesla operations specialist will spark the next great innovation for both industries.”
Founded in 2003 in Palo Alto, California, Tesla Motors offered free 30-minute test drives at both the Symposium workshops and at the Saturday night Black Tie awards dinner and ceremony. According to Tesla’s website, the Model S is designed to be the safest, most exhilarating sedan on the road. With unparalleled performance delivered through Tesla’s unique, all-electric powertrain, the Model S accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.8 seconds. The Model S comes with autopilot capabilities and is designed to make highway driving safer and stress free.
The Model X, released in February 2012, includes all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery providing 257 miles of range, and accelerates from zero to 60 in 3.2 seconds. The model X comfortably seats seven people in three rows and completes a full charge in a little over an hour.
Not surprisingly, dentistry is also focused on cutting-edge technology. Chief among the industry’s latest innovations includes 3D dental imaging, in-office or outsourced milling machines, surgical guides for accurate implant placement, and the conversion of a patient’s own blood into platelet-rich plasma, a natural rejection-free injectable, topical or membrane-like substance that has been found to significantly enhance healing.
“Whether it’s attending some of dentistry’s most thought-provoking lectures, shaking hands with expert leaders in the field, or taking the most advanced and environmentally friend car out for a spin, this weekend was designed especially for our attending doctors,” added Ms. Fiorella Samaniego, IDIA’s Director of Operations. “This is our way of saying thanks and for rewarding them for their years of hard work, dedication and passion. The IDIA would not be the success that it is without their support.”
