Sherman Dentist Arrested for Allegedly Treating Pediatric Patients While Under the Influence

A pediatric dentist in Sherman, Texas has been arrested and charged with a state jail felony after allegedly performing dental procedures while intoxicated. Police responded to a report at the Pediatric Dentistry of Sherman around midday after staff became concerned about the condition of the dentist, identified as 36-year-old Kelly Buck. She was temporarily working at the office through a staffing agency and was not a full-time employee.

Staff members said they noticed unusual behavior and physical symptoms as Dr. Buck was treating her first patient of the afternoon. Concerned for patient safety, the office manager instructed staff not to allow her to participate in any further appointments and contacted the authorities. Upon arrival, officers observed signs that Buck may have been impaired. She failed a field sobriety test administered at the scene.

Sherman police arrested Buck for allegedly performing surgery while intoxicated, which under Texas law is considered a state jail felony. It remains unclear whether the reported intoxication was due to alcohol or another substance. She was transported to the Grayson County Jail and later released after posting a $10,000 bond. Investigators also obtained a blood sample for further analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

Kelly Buck has held a dental license in Texas since 2016 and has no prior record of disciplinary action. Her attorney maintains she is innocent of the charges, stating that she is committed to patient care and expects the blood test results will show she was not impaired during her time at the clinic. The office has shared a public statement expressing deep concern over the incident and an intent to cooperate fully with authorities.

The dental staffing agency associated with Buck has also responded, noting that its professionals are independent contractors who undergo background checks and that the dentist in question has been suspended from using their platform pending the outcome of the investigation. The case has drawn attention within the local community, as police reiterated that patient safety remains their top priority and that allegations of this nature are handled with the utmost seriousness.
