Lorain County Jail Officer Faces Charges for Unauthorized Cavity Search of Inmate

A corrections officer at Lorain County Jail has been charged in connection with a reported improper body cavity search of an inmate. The incident, which allegedly took place inside a jail cell last year, led to six misdemeanor charges being filed against Lori Blaze, a 42-year-old resident of Berlin Heights.

According to court documents, Blaze is accused of violating the inmate’s civil rights, among other offenses, including falsification, obstructing official business, dereliction of duty, conducting an unauthorized search, and failing to prepare the proper paperwork. The alleged events occurred on November 10, 2025. Blaze pleaded not guilty at her arraignment, where the judge set her bond at $4,500. She was released and is awaiting a pretrial hearing set for March 2.

Sheriff Jack Hall explained that the charges relate to a body cavity search that was not performed according to legal protocols. These types of searches must be authorized by a warrant and conducted in a medical facility under medical supervision. In this case, Hall noted, those procedures were not followed. The jail’s correctional supervisors reported the situation to the inspector general about a month after the incident.

Blaze is currently on paid administrative leave while the legal process unfolds. The officer has served in her role since November 2023. Her attorney, George Gerken, stated that requests for case information have been made but declined further comment pending the ongoing investigation.

Sheriff Hall emphasized the importance of protecting inmate rights and maintaining jail standards, saying the case is being taken seriously by the department. The outcome of the investigation and legal proceedings is expected to impact jail policy and officer training.
