SRINAGAR, Dec 27: In a major step toward integrating advanced technology into public healthcare, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), in collaboration with Safe Hands Dental Health and Awareness Centre, has launched an AI-enabled robotic dental check-up system aimed at strengthening preventive oral care in the city.
The state-of-the-art system, known as Scano Air, was inaugurated during a Dental Health Awareness Camp organised for SMC officials and workers.
Designed for quick, non-invasive and accurate preliminary screenings, the AI-powered technology can detect cavities, gum disease, plaque buildup and other dental issues without causing discomfort.
The system was formally unveiled by Jenab Fazlul Haseeb (IAS), Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, in the presence of Dr. Fauzia Habib, Health Officer, SMC.
Describing the initiative as a significant advancement, the Commissioner said the use of artificial intelligence in routine dental checkups would improve early detection, reduce the burden of advanced dental diseases and enhance access to quality preventive care.
Unlike traditional dental examinations, the robotic system relies on intelligent imaging and data-driven analysis to deliver instant assessments. Officials noted that this makes it particularly suitable for large-scale community screening programmes, enabling timely intervention, cost-effective treatment planning and efficient health monitoring.
Alongside oral health awareness sessions and demonstrations on dental hygiene, the AI-based check-up system emerged as the highlight of the camp. All participating SMC staff members underwent AI-assisted screenings and received immediate feedback on their oral health status.
SMC and Safe Hands Dental Health and Awareness Centre said the successful introduction of Scano Air reflects a broader commitment to adopting AI-driven preventive healthcare solutions. They added that similar technologies may be expanded to community-level awareness and screening drives across Srinagar in the future.
