TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 29, 2025 — Barrera Advanced Dentistry, a dental practice serving California’s South Bay, has fully integrated the Dexis IOS Intraoral Scanner into its restorative dentistry workflow, replacing traditional dental impressions with a faster and more comfortable digital alternative.
Led by Dr. Adriana Barrera, the practice has eliminated impression trays and putty materials for procedures such as crowns, onlays, and nightguards. Instead, it now uses advanced digital scanning technology to create precise 3D models of patients’ teeth, improving accuracy while significantly reducing treatment time.
The Dexis IOS Intraoral Scanner uses optical technology to capture detailed digital images of oral structures through a quick, non-invasive scan. These digital impressions are transmitted directly to dental laboratories within seconds, allowing final restorations to be delivered in about one week, compared with the traditional two to three weeks.
“Digital scanning has completely changed how we deliver restorative care,” Dr. Barrera said. “Patients are far more comfortable, and the precision of these scans leads to better-fitting restorations with fewer adjustments.”
According to the practice, the digital workflow shortens chair time and improves patient experience. The scanner’s lightweight design, wide field of view, and deep focus enable accurate imaging even in difficult-to-reach areas, resulting in restorations that fit correctly on the first attempt. This approach is particularly beneficial for patients who experience anxiety with conventional impressions.
Dr. Barrera uses the scanner for a range of treatments, including crowns for damaged teeth, onlays that preserve natural tooth structure, and custom nightguards for patients with bruxism or TMJ-related issues. The practice says the enhanced precision supports long-term oral health and restoration durability.
Barrera Advanced Dentistry continues to invest in modern dental technologies to improve care for the South Bay community. The practice combines digital tools with Dr. Barrera’s more than 20 years of clinical experience to provide efficient and patient-centered treatment.
