HAGERSTOWN, MD – Hagerstown Community College (HCC) is set to enhance rural healthcare training thanks to a $197,045 grant from Maryland’s Rural Maryland Prosperity Investment Fund (RMPIF).
The funding, part of the RMPIF’s mission to elevate rural living standards by 2030 while preserving local heritage, will support HCC’s “Growing Rural Futures: Advancing Health and Workforce in Western Maryland” initiative.
HCC plans to use the grant to expand its dental laboratories, including renovations and new equipment, as well as purchase tools for its Medical Laboratory Technician Program. Renovation of the dental lab is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
The expansion is projected to benefit 127 students, serve 900 patients through the community dental clinic, and ensure 95 graduates gain experience with grant-funded equipment.
This initiative strengthens both healthcare access in rural western Maryland and the training of the next generation of dental and laboratory professionals.
