On Tuesday, September 23, 449 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) district of San Jose received free medical and dental care with the assistance of a Gugma medical and dental team led by Governor Fredenil H. Castro.
The inmates expressed relief and gratitude after receiving medical exams, medications, hygiene products, and dental kits.
San Jose Jail Warden Julius Cesar Chavez, Jail Supervisor Rowena Magallanes, and several inmates commended the initiative, emphasizing that comprehensive, free medical care is crucial to the overall health of inmates.
The event was supported by the Provincial Health Office, led by Dr. Ramon Alex T. Nolasco; the Pilar Regional Hospital, led by Dr. Ian Asiga; and the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, led by Dr. Florencio Luchin.
Staff from the Roxas City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology also assisted. This project demonstrates the provincial government’s commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality healthcare to all segments of society, including those incarcerated.
