The Damien Center officially opened a new dental clinic on the Near East Side on July 28th, aiming to expand oral health care access for Marion County residents.
The clinic, located in the nonprofit’s Mosaic Building at 1420 E. Washington Street, provides routine cleanings, fillings, extractions, X-rays, and other dental services.
Uninsured patients may qualify for financial assistance, with fees calculated on a sliding scale based on income and family size.
The Damien Center, Indiana’s oldest HIV/AIDS service provider, said the decision to open the clinic stemmed from a 2022 county survey.
The survey showed that 38% of adults had not seen a dentist in the past year. Among households with an annual income of less than $25,000, that percentage rose to 65%.
“People often delay or avoid dental care due to cost, fear, or past negative experiences. We are working to remove these barriers,” said Alan Veitch, president and CEO of the Damien Center.
The dental office is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Appointments can be made online. Patients are required to bring their insurance card and photo ID. Financial counselors are available to assist with Medicaid or Marketplace enrollment.
