Professor Linda Oge Okoye, dean of the University of Nigeria, Enugu State School of Dentistry, recently clarified that the rumor that the school “will lose accreditation in July this year due to lack of funds” is pure rumor. She stressed that the school is not at risk of losing accreditation, but is working to expand enrollment.
In an interview with The Guardian, Professor Okoye said that the school is the only institution authorized to train dentists in the southeast region and is currently operating well. She pointed out: “We will not lose accreditation, our goal is to increase enrollment.”
Currently, the school’s annual enrollment quota is only 15. In order to meet the growing demand for enrollment and improve the utilization of educational resources, the school has applied for re-accreditation from the relevant institutions, with the goal of increasing the enrollment quota to 60 people per year.
“We have a lot of students who want to enroll in the dental school, and we are fully capable of expanding enrollment. We hope to achieve this goal by improving the existing enrollment and infrastructure system.” She said.
Professor Okoye called on all sectors of society, especially local kind-hearted people in Nigeria, to support the school to further improve its infrastructure construction. She mentioned that although the college already has lecture halls, teaching buildings and dormitories, it still needs to be further improved in order to meet the highest admission standards set by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
“We have listed some key projects to meet the requirements of the expanded admission quota. We hope that all sectors of society will work together to promote the development of dental education.” She added.
